ബംഗാളിലെ ബിർഭുമിലുള്ള രാംപുർഹട്ടിലെ വീട്ടിൽ തൂങ്ങിമരിച്ച നിലയിലാലാണ് മൃതദേഹം കണ്ടെത്തിയത്. മമത ബാനർജിയുടെ കസിനും പ്രാദേശിക തൃണമൂൽ കോൺഗ്രസ് നേതാവുമായ നിഹാർ മുഖർജിയുടെ മകളാണ് ബൃഷ്ടി മുഖർജി.
